Why is it called Ram's name is bigger than Shri Ram?
आखिर क्यो कहा जाता है राम से बड़ा है राम का नाम?
श्री रामांपेक्षा रामाचे नाव मोठे आहे असे का म्हटले जाते?
According
to the Uttar Ramayana, the main scripture of Hinduism, when Ashwamegh Yagya was
completed, Lord Shri Ram organized a very large gathering. In which he invited
all the Gods, sages, muni , yakshas and kings etc. in it.
It is said that on the instigation of Narada Muni who came to the meeting, a king presented in the meeting greeted everyone except sage Vishwamitra. Due to which the sage Vishwamitra was enraged and he told Lord Shri Ram that if Shri Ram did not give death penalty to that king before sunset, he would curse him.
On this, Shriram vowed to kill
that king before sunset.
On receiving the news of Shriram's vow,
that king run fast and went to the shelter of Lord Hanuman's mother Anjani
and asked for the promise of protecting his life without telling the whole thing to her.

that king run fast and went to the shelter of Lord Hanuman's mother Anjani

Mata Anjani
then ordered Hanuman to protect king’s life.
Hanuman ji took the oath of Shriram
and said that no one will be able to spoil
king’s hair also
but when king told
that Lord Shri Ram has vowed to kill him,
then Hanuman ji got into trouble
as to how to save king’s life.
And how to fulfill the mother's promise
and how to save Lord Shri Ram from curse.
Hanumanji caught in a religious crisis,
came up with a plan.
Hanumanji asked king’s to chant the name of Rama
on the coast of Sharyu river.
Hanuman ji hide himself behind king in subtle form.
When Shriram reached the shore of Sharyu, looking for king,
he saw that king was chanting Ram-Ram.

When Shriram reached the shore of Sharyu, looking for king,
he saw that king was chanting Ram-Ram.
Prabhu Shriram thought,
"He is a devotee, how can I take the life of a devotee".
Shri Ram returned to Raj Bhavan
and told his dilemma to the sage Vishwamitra.
Vishwamitra stuck to his point
and on which Shriram had to return again
to the Sharyu coast to take king's life.
Now, in front of Shri Ram too, a dilemma has arisen that
how should kill their own devotee
who is chanting the name of Ram.
Lord Rama was thinking
that Hanumanji should have been with him,
but Hanumanji was conducting
a holy war against his own adoration lord in a subtle way.
Hanumanji knew that no one can kill king who is chanting Ram's name,
not even Rama Purushottam Ram himself.
When Sri Ram returned and
took out a power arrow (शक्ति बाण -Shakti Ban) to kill king,
then at the behest of Hanumanji, king started chanting Ram-Ram.
Shri Rama knew that Shakti ban does not affect Rama's name.
He returned to Raj Bhavan helplessly.
Vishwamitra returned to see them cursing and
Shri Rama had to go to the Sharyu shore again.
This time king was singing “Jai-Jai Siyaram-
Jai-Jai Hanuman”
at the behest of Hanuman. Prabhu Shri Ram thought that
along with my name, this king is speaking of strength and devotion.
In such a situation, no weapon can kill it.
Seeing this crisis, Shriram fainted.
Then the sage Vashistha advised the sage Vishwamitra
not to put Rama in distress like this.
He said that Shri Ram cannot kill anyone who chants Ram,
because of the power is in Ram's name. And it is not in the Ram himself.

He said that Shri Ram cannot kill anyone who chants Ram,

Seeing the crisis growing,
sage Vishwamitra took over Rama and freed him from his word.
Seeing the matter recovering,
Hanuman, who was self hiding behind the king,
came back in his original form
and fell at the feet of Shri Ram.
Then Lord Shri Ram said that Hanumanji has proved from this context
that the power of devotion
always becomes the power of adoration and the true
devotee always remains greater than God.
Thus Hanumanji defeated Shri Rama
with the help of just chanting name Rama.
The great is Rama's name
and great - great is Lord Hanuman, a devotee of Lord Rama.
So that it is always called Ram's name is bigger than Shri Ram.
